The importance of monitoring legacy tailings
The need to have comprehensive 24/7 monitoring of closed/legacy tailings dams (and other aspects of a closed mine) is as pertinent and important as it is for an operational mine. This presentation will consider the contribution of comprehensive monitoring to effective risk management of legacy tailings and a number of related ESG factors, in particular :
1. Compliance with GISTM for all mine closures;
2. Case studies of deploying a fully automated monitoring solution for tailings dams and other geotechnical hazards;
3. Contribution of a proper monitoring solution to a mine company’s ESG assessment.
